Welcome to the Child Stress and Emotions Lab (CSEL)

The Child Stress and Emotions Lab (CSEL) is directed by Lea Dougherty. Our research group investigates a number of phenomena related to children’s emotional and behavioral development from early childhood through adulthood. Specifically, we investigate (1) the developmental origins of our body’s stress response system and how the stress system is associated with risk and resiliency in early childhood; (2) the effects of early life experience on children’s neurobiological, affective, cognitive and social development; (3) the neurobiological basis of emotion regulation in childhood; and (4) mental health problems in preschool-age children.
